Annual Community Events

Each year, WMHO presents free community events in Stony Brook Village Center, open to the public, to enrich family life through traditions that bring neighbors together.

Summer Concerts on the Green is a Sunday series of live music events performed on the Stony Brook Post Office steps for a lown chair-carrying audience that gathers on the Village Green.

The Scarecrow Competition encourages children, families and groups to stretch their imaginations and create a unique scarecrow to be displayed in the Center until Halloween. Votes are cast by the public with cash prizes awarded at the Halloween Festival on October 31. The Halloween celebration features "trick or treating", free mini-pumpkins, games, Scarecrow Competition prize awards, a dance performance and a children's costume parade around the Center.

The first Sunday in December marks the beginning of the holiday season in Stony Brook Village Center. Area families and groups decorate some 80 holiday trees positioned throught along Center pathways as the Promenade of Trees, on display through New Year's Day. The Holiday Festival features a visit from Santa, vocal and instrumental performances and the lighting of the 70-foot holiday tree on the Village Green.
