As you return to Stony Brook Village Center on the east side of Main Street next to Market Square, you'll see All Souls Church. Designed in 1889 by the architect Stanford White (1853-1906), the land was donated by Mrs. Louis Norton, a niece of Jonas Smith's family. A memorial window in the church is dedicated to Jonas and his wife, Nancy.
The church roof is designed to emulate hands folded in prayer. As you enter the church, you'll see the gold stars on the blue ceiling and one of the few tracker organs left on Long Island. The organ was originally donated in 1890 by Mrs. Jay Lawrence Smith to the St. James Episcopal Church. When that church received a new organ, the instrument was given to All Souls Church. A more extensive history of the church is available at the site.
