Blue Salon +Spa in Stony Brook provides a welcome respite from everyday life, according to owner Cathleen Hansen, who’s been in Stony Brook Village for three years. “Our customers can come here to relax and unwind.”

The salon and spa offers a full range of services including hot stone and aromatherapy massages, pre-natal, reiki, deep tissue, reflexology and other reinvigorating treatments for men and women. All massages are performed by licensed massage therapists using organic Young Living Essential Oils for optimum wellness and relaxation.

“You’re able to de-stress while you’re here,” Hansen said.

The spa also can do Amma treatments, used for most ailments from tight muscles to cancer, and designed to bring the body’s energy back into balance.

Blue Salon + Spa cares about the well-being of its customers and carries the Jane Iredele line of skincare and cosmetics, which is sold in doctor’s offices for cancer patients and for those who want a skincare line free from parabens, synthetic fragrance, fillers, talc, phthalates, and GMO ingredients. Customers can also feel comfortable if they are looking for wigs, as the spa has a separate room where you can discreetly try on different styles.

According to a Mayo Clinic report on Healthy Lifestyles and Stress Management, “studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for: anxiety, digestive disorders, headaches, insomnia related to stress, temporomandibular joint pain” and more.

“Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often produces feelings of caring, comfort and connection,” according to the report.

All of the facials are performed by licensed estheticians using Eminence Organic Skincare. Eminence is an all organic handmade skincare line made in Hungary. It includes a full line of creams, masks, clarifiers, hydrators, exfoliating cleansers, firming oils and more in the most amazingly soothing natural fragrances.

“Eminence is incredibly good for your skin,” Hansen said.

You can select one of the signature facials or let the spa customize something specifically for your skin’s needs. Options include everything from detox facials to enzyme peels, along with pore-refining anti-aging, restorative and clarifying treatments.

The most popular treatments include: Hydrofacial, which offers a deep ‘vacuuming’ of the skin, replacing dirt and oils with a hydrating treatment; Light Stim, which uses three different light treatments for acne, fine lines, inflammation and collagen production; and Microdermabrasion, which polishes the skin with a diamond-tip machine.

“Your face is just glowing when you leave,” Hansen said.

Blue Salon + Spa also does teen and tween facial treatments, along with specialized treatments for all age groups. It’s the perfect place to come to for a ‘day of beauty,’ or to combine with lunch and shopping in Stony Brook Village.

The salon and spa also carries a full line of products to take home to continue a wellness regiment.

The Salon offers style, cut and blow-out along with color, hair extensions and other services including Balayage, Ombre, Permanent Wave, Sapphire mineral treatment, Brazilian Blow Out, True and True+ Keratin System, and Trissola Express System.

The Biolage Matrix line, which is natural, Vegan and doesn’t test on animals, is used in the salon. The salon also offers ammonia-free products and also carries a hair growth line.
When Hansen came to Stony Brook three years ago, she re-did the salon and spa, updating it and bringing in natural products.

“The products I use are the products I’d like to use for myself,” Hansen said.

Some of the other salon services include eyelash extensions, manicures, pedicures and waxing.

Blue Spa + Salon also does parties and group treatments including bride-to-be parties, and little girl/princess parties (including lunch, dessert, a ‘make a tiara’ project, and hair, nail or makeup treatment).
