WELLNESS & WELLBEING: A Stony Brook Village Self-Care Newsletter

THE “WHY”

Our team at Stony Brook Village knows that the past few years have taken a toll on everyone’s mind, body and soul. Starting this February, every month different merchants, activities and landmarks will be featured in a newsletter dedicated to helping you achieve new levels of wellness and wellbeing.

FEBRUARY: SCENTS, SIPPING & THE SPA

SCENTS

Did you know that the part of your brain that processes emotions and memories is directly connected to your nose? That is why certain scents can bring you back in time, or elevate your mood entirely! Madison’s Niche has over 12 different scents of diffusers that were created to make you feel reinvigorated, calm, focused and more. They also carry candles, as do Ben’s Garden and the Village Florist & Events.

SIPPING

In the fast paced world we live in, one of the greatest things we take for granted is being able to sit down and enjoy a warm freshly brewed cup of coffee, tea and even hot chocolate. These moments are comforting, cheerful, reviving and relaxing – they soften the pace of life.

In particular, coffee has a number of health benefits when consumed in moderation: antioxidant and anti-inflamitory properties, reduced chances of cancer and other diseases, mood enhacement, increased alertness, and even possible protection against depression. The Village Coffee Market – whose motto is “Encourage Someone Today” – has over 180 flavors of k-cups, over 40 varieties of ground coffee and also carries cold brew and whole bean coffee. A cup of joe to go is available all day long at this establishment, and at Crazy Beans, if you’re looking for a decorative latte.

Tea and hot chocolate drinkers – stay tuned for upcoming features on you favorite beverages and where to get them in Stony Brook Village!

THE SPA

Just the word “spa” alone ushes in relaxing feelings: the smell of eucalyptus, the warmth of kneading hands over tense back muscles, the calming sound of waves. Did you know that spa services have been used for several thousand years?

The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates – the name behind physician’s Hippocratic Oath – actually prescribed massages with a combination of proper diet, exercise, fresh air and music to balance health.

Massages have been proven to reduce blood pressure, improve blood circulation and even strengthen your immune system. The alleviation of stress on the body with the healing properties of essential oils provided more than just peace of mind…You are extending your life and adding to the quality of it as well. With that core belief in mind, Blue Spa has served the Stony Brook Village community for years with wellness services, including specials that change monthly. To make you feel even better – They use organic and sustainably sourced products, so you feel beautiful on the inside and out…just like Hippocrates would have wanted!
