Find Your Style At Mint Clothing Boutique

February 12, 2021

Joanna Mazzella, co-owner of Mint, has always had a love of fashion and one of her favorite things to do is help customers find the look that works best for them.

Mint Clothing Boutique in Stony Brook carries all the latest styles from special occasion dresses to casual shirts, shorts, sundresses and denim, along with handbags,

costume jewelry and other accessories.  Mazzella said she takes pride in helping customers of all age groups, from teen to adult choose from the latest fashion trends.

“We love to help style our customers,” Mazzella said. “There’s always a way to incorporate the newest trends into a wardrobe no matter what their age is.”

Mint carries a multitude of brands, many of which are exclusively sold within its own boutiques.

Mazzella said that the trends this year are fun, incorporating a range of patterns and materials that work well with the shop’s ‘East End, Long Island’ type of vibe.

Some of the looks include jumpsuits and rompers and two piece sets. Another big trend is wide-legged pants cropped at the ankle or shin. Smock tops and dresses with ruffles are also a fresh look, along with gingham and rough frayed edges on denim and shorts.

For the summer, Mazzella said that she is seeing a lot of pops of color especially red and yellow, but as we start to move into fall, colors will turn more toward burgundy, olive and mustard tones.

Another big look for the fall will be faux finishes (ex. leather and suede) especially in leggings, along with sleeve details such as ruffles, layers and flair on blouses, along with stripes and florals in the deeper jewel tone shades.

Mazzella said that in addition to the range of styles, the shop also carries items in varying price points to offer “something for everyone. We really try to vary it up.”

Mazzella, a Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) graduate opened Mint Clothing Boutique in Stony Brook six years ago with her husband Stephan, after gaining experience as a fashion buyer in the city then working for different companies in the Hamptons.

They had opened their first boutique in Mattituck in 2004, and now have five locations on Long Island and NYC. The partnership with her husband works well since she’s the creative/fashion type and he’s more business/accounting oriented.

Even after many years working in the fashion industry and owning her own boutique, Mazzella said she still loves seeing what’s new in fashion and what’s happening for the season.

“I still get excited when the new shipments come in,” she said.

And while she loves to follow the trends and choose the style direction of the shop she said that the customer service is very important and is really what sets them apart.

“I love knowing that we’re able to help a customer get ready for a special occasion and by helping them to find the perfect outfit,” she said.

Customers can also arrange a private shopping party at Mint and receive 15% off for a group of six or more, ideal for wedding parties or girls’ night out. Call to arrange a date, time, food and beverages for your event. Or, you can arrange the event as a charity fundraiser, donating 15% of sales to a cause. Most importantly a stylist will be there to lead the event and show new arrivals, style everyone at the event and answer fashion questions.
