February 16, 2021

Village Florist and Events in Stony Brook is more than just a pretty flower shop.

Amanda Haggquist-Lamariana, principal, also offers wedding and event services that can transform a special occasion into something memorable and magical.

From corporate parties, wedding ceremonies and engagement parties, to receptions, Sweet 16s, and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Village Florist and Events works with a host to get a feel for the mood they are looking to create on their special day. The day of the event they set up and take care of everything. They even set up for parties at customer’s homes.

“Events are my passion,” Haggquist-Lamariana said. “Especially weddings. It’s so much fun to be a part of someone’s big day.

Haggquist-Lamariana said that a lot of times, these life events can be very emotional. The other day, she said, she brought the bouquets for an upcoming wedding to the family and the mother-of-the-bride started to cry.

“It can be very rewarding,” she said.

Village Florist and Events celebrated its one year anniversary in Stony Brook Village Center in September 2018 and Haggquist-Lamariana said she couldn’t be happier having the shop in Stony Brook. Several times a year, she also opens up the shop for workshops where people can come and make their own unique items, such as a fall theme mason jar bouquet or a holiday wreath.
“Stony Brook has such a wonderful community feel,” she said.

In fact, the village has really embraced her talents. Her shop serves as the house vendor at the historic Three Village Inn, a popular wedding and event venue on the waterfront just across the street from the Village Center.

“We typically do at least one event a week there,” she said. “It’s wonderful.”

Village Florist and Events can provide everything needed to create a beautiful setting. This includes flowers and table centerpieces in addition to accent pieces such as candelabras, urns, candles and lighting for the reception.

They can also create a beautiful setting for an indoor or outdoor ceremony, including decorated arches and pedestals. In fact, Three Village Inn has a beautiful garden popular for outdoor weddings.

And, of course, Village Florist and Events can provide all the flowers, bouquets and boutonnieres for the wedding party.

Haggquist-Lamariana has been in the floral business for over a decade, having previously owned a shop in the Smithtown area.

The floral design business suits her perfectly. As a creative person, she initially went to college for art and then went on to finish her degree in horticulture before working at various florist and event shops.

The business she owns now let’s her utilize both of her original passions.

In addition to the events side of the business, Village Florist will make the perfect bouquet for your loved one. Holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day are especially busy, but the shop carries many different ready-made bouquets for customers who are in a hurry, or the staff will gladly make custom bouquets. Customers can also call ahead or go online to pre-order.

Christmas is another holiday that the shop is catered towards, carrying a large selection of holiday décor, wreaths, swags, snow globes, snowmen, figurines, mini trees, decorative items, and more. They also carry cards for all occasions.

“This shop used to be a gift shop so we do have a lot of people who come in looking for gifts,” she said.

You’ll find plush stuffed animals, balloon bouquets, silk arrangements, home décor, scented candles, Leanin’ Tree greeting cards, Greenleaf Gifts and more.

As with everything she does, Haggquist-Lamariana said she tries to make the in-store assortment of flowers and gifts special. While many customers prefer a dozen red roses, she also carries on-trend merchandise, including rustic, wooded natural pine cones, wild ivy, gourds, branches, etc. and will work with a customer to combine an assortment of custom picked flowers. They also carry bulbs and plants.

“We try to bring in eclectic items, things you won’t find in the grocery or home stores,” she said.
